The Department of Airports Thailand will add tourist service centres at its 29 provincial airports for boosting travel by providing tour packages, accommodation bookings and others services for visitors.
Darun Sangchai, the director-general of the department, said that his department, along with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, would develop the “tourist airports” for catering visitors with convenient services, for boost tourism and for promoting local economies.
Sangchai said that the tourist airports will have booths of services including discounted tour packages, rental cars, accommodations, Wi-Fi, as well as shops of souvenirs and local products.
Darun said, “Holidaymakers can arrive at such airports without having to plan their trips in advance because relevant services will be available there.”
The project would begin at the airports of Buri Ram, Nan and Ranong provinces due to their potential and local tourist attractions. Later, it might be expanded to 26 other provincial airports.
