A devastating fire tore through the municipal market in Temuco, southern Chile, on 20 April evening. It is reported that two fire-fighters were injured as over 400 of them worked relentlessly to evacuate residents in the Cautín province town.
Cautín Governor José Montalva said the building had been “completely devastated” by the fire and it was a “very big loss,” media reports stated. Police said they had detained one person.
Temuco is a central point of departure for a number of tourist destinations. Its modern infrastructure, with contemporary architecture and commercial centres, make it the most important tourist spot in the central southern area of the country.
