In the Pink City of Jaipur, Le Meridien unlocked a new perspective on literature with its partnership with the Jaipur Literature Festival, 2016, the largest literary gathering in the world. The hotel hosted two engaging and innovative events as an extension to the festival that brings literary minds together from India and around the world. The Festival took place from 21st to 25th of January, 2016.
On Sunday evening, a select gathering of guests from Le Meridien participated in an exclusive conversation with celebrated British Asian actor and author, Meera Syal. Meera kept the audience engaged with her witty anecdotes and narrating her experiences as one of the key writers and comedy actors from the Indian diaspora. She has authored books such as Anita & Me, Life isn’t all Haa Haa Hee Hee and last year, The House of Hidden Mothers. In addition, she has written and acted in successful TV series such as Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No 42. She was conferred with the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2015 for services to drama and literature. She has also been named as one of fifty funniest actors in British comedy, by The Observer.
Another enriching and inspiring evening was the Writers’ Ball, which marks the closing of the Jaipur Literature Festival. For the third consecutive year, this evening of cultural and cuisine showcase, was hosted at the sprawling Amer Lawns at Le Meridien Jaipur. A special treat for the guests was a performance by Chugge Khan in collaboration with the Jaiselmer Boys and Saxophonist and Composer, George Brooks.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Gupta, General Manager for Le Meridien, Jaipur said, “We believe that occasions like these are a window to discover destination ‘Jaipur’ within the framework of the Jaipur Literature Festival.
