The fairytale will come to life in the 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre, taking inspiration from both the animated and live-action versions and employing state-of-the-art modern technology to convey the classic narrative.
Elaborate costuming and puppetry will service the story as it hit musical numbers are performed live with creative high-definition projections and engaging scenery.
To bring “Beauty and the Beast” to the stage, Disney assembled an all-star creative team, led by director and choreographer Connor Gallagher. Gallagher collaborated with writer Sara Wordsworth and a talented collection of Broadway artists to create an imaginative, new approach to this iconic story.
The songs will definitely be at the centre of the production with pieces from award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman. Fresh arrangements and orchestrations by Matt Castle and Frank Galgano will give the production its own unique voice. Classics to be performed also include “Belle”, “Something There”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Gaston”, and “Be Our Guest”, given a full new multi-course treatment.
The Disney magic will also feature the enchanted objects in a unique fashion animated with expert costumes and puppets from costume designer Sarah Cubbage (Broadway’s “Skylight”) and puppet designer Lake Simons (“Etiquette Unraveled”).
The live show will first debut on November 6, 2017, joining “The Golden Mickeys” and “Disney’s Believe,” following the film premiere onboard and ashore on March 17, 2017.
