disneyDisney benefited $1.6 billion reflecting the theme park’s solid performance, the attendance at Disney’s domestic theme parks and resorts jumped 6 percent in the first quarter that ended in December.

The division exceeded analysts’ expectations by generating $5.2 billion in revenue which was an all-time quarterly high for the division. According to Thomson Reuters analysts predicted revenue at about $4.87 billion.

Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy said during a call with investors that the parks had a strong quarter and Pandora — the World of Avatar helped bring record attendance at Animal Kingdom and Walt Disney World as a whole.

Disney’s international parks, including Disneyland Paris, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary  helped in fueling the growth. At Shanghai, one day footfall in October was about 65,000 to 68,000 people, as per Disney CEO Bob Iger, while the prices in Shanghai are expected to increase June.

Iger further said about the theme park’s financial performance in the first quarter that it deepened their confidence in the significant investments they were making to grow the business around the world.

Basically the guest spending growth was due to higher average ticket prices, food, beverage and merchandise spending and average daily hotel room rates.

The per-hotel-room spending increased by 6 percent and hotel occupancy held steady at about 91 percent as per Disney.

It was reported that overall, Walt Disney Company’s first quarter revenues topped $15.35 billion, up 4 percent, compared to the same time period in 2016.
