A 24-year-old Glasgow man was removed from the British Airways Orlando-bound flight at 16:45 local time.
The passenger was taken off the flight half an hour after it made the unscheduled landing at Logan International Airport.
Massachusetts State Police said the man would be summonsed to appear in court accused of interfering with flight crew on the Boeing 777, which took off from Gatwick on Thursday afternoon.
According to force spokesman the Customs and Border Protection has taken custody of the 24-year-old man from Glasgow, Scotland.
Supporting the cast and crew, a British Airways spokeswoman said that the flight attendants, crews and travellers deserve to enjoy their flights, and not to suffer any form of abuse. Any form of disruptive behaviour shall not be tolerated and the airways will take appropriate actions.
British Airways apologised for the delay to the other customers on the flight.
