Here are Insight’s new offerings for the holiday season in 2015/2016.
Christmas Markets of Germany, Austria and Italy
For the first time in 2015, Insight Vacations will introduce guests to the Christmas markets of Italy in the stunning town of Bolzano set against the backdrop of the stunning Dolomites. Here is where Italy’s largest Christmas market takes place, with squares blooming with a wide variety of colourful stalls and the smell of chestnuts roasting in the air. Taste the local Italian hot mulled wine, and sample a piece of delicious Zelten Christmas cake. Visit the town of Merano and be enticed by its festive surroundings, and the promise of sweet strudel or savoury Dinnede pizza. Enjoy the romance of Verona and Venice as a promising end to your Christmas holiday. Stand beneath Juliet’s balcony, scene of the famed play by Shakespeare, and get lost in the historic streets of St Mark’s Square. Cap it off with a Gondola ride within its famous canals before a farewell celebration dinner at a historic restaurant. Prices start from US$1995 per person twin share.
Christmas Markets of Poland, Prague and Germany
The discerning traveller will enjoy this new itinerary covering the best of Eastern Europe. Begin the journey in Krakow and get a taste of old world Polish charm with a stroll in among its romantic gabled townhouses. Visit the former Jewish quarter of Kazimierz to see the Ghetto Square and visit the remains of its Ghetto wall. Next up is Wroclaw, known as the Venice of Poland. Admire the Baroque splendour of its Christmas markets and the surrounding fairy-tale charm. Fans of the macabre will enjoy a visit to Kutna Hora, where the infamous Sedlec chapel stands. Admire its sculptures, coats of arms and chandeliers, all made from human bones. Meet a local stallholder in Prague and enjoy a glass of Svarak, a type of local mulled wine, and take a bite on ‘Tredelnik’ pastry. Discover the spirit of Berlin, a city that is a dichotomy of old and new. Traditional buildings sit alongside a bustling street art and fashion scene, including remnants of the Berlin wall. Explore a region that was once a colonial power house a few centuries ago on this 15 day journey.. Begin in Madrid on a fine note by visiting the magnificent Prado museum to admire the paintings of Velazquez, and Goya, followed by El Greco’s paintings in the Cathedral of Santo Tome in Toledo. Portuguese fine wine waits in the town of Porto, known internationally as the capital of Port Wine in the world. Taste some of these wines, and take a snapshot of its famous multi-coloured houses. This 10 day exotic escapade takes you to see the best of this destination that has history going back centuries with a colourful mix of Arabic, Islamic, African and French influences. Walk the city of Casablanca upon your arrival, a city that inspired the famous movie of its namesake starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. A Moroccan carnival like atmosphere with mezze plates, scented tagine dishes alongside belly dancers and drummers provide an unforgettable experience in Fez. Meet nomadic dwellers in the desert of Erfoud and gaze upon the scarlet sunset of the Saharan desert.
