Tourism promoters in Donegal are sketching out their strategy to maximize the feel good factor from the various high profile honors awarded to Donegal in 2016. National Geographic Traveller named the county as the “coolest place on the planet” and the website Ireland Before You Die as the “most beautiful county in Ireland.” It also gained worldwide exposure from the filming of Star Wars.
Barney McLaughlin, Donegal County Council’s head of tourism said that attending the 2017 Holiday World Shows in Dublin and Belfast is among the many important elements of its wide-ranging marketing plan and tourism strategy for 2017.
To quote McLaughlin, “Donegal Tourism Ltd in association with Donegal County Council will work collaboratively with tourism providers to showcase Donegal on the Wild Atlantic Way. Various tourism providers have come on board to represent and promote their respective areas including Discover Bundoran, Donegal Town, and Killybegs – Gateway to Sliabh Liag, Donegal Airport, Fanad Lighthouse and Inishowen Tourism.”
