Most Boeing 737 fleet has three seats on either side of the aisle. However, flights on the Brazil-U.S. routes will replace the middle seats with tables in the premium economy to increase the convenience quotient of the long haul trips. The tables can be shared with passengers on either side and will provide more space between them.
The middle seats are the most abhorred ones in a plane. The passenger in the middle seat has to wrestle for both the armrests from their co-passengers. They have to suffer the inconvenience of passengers by the window side passing to and fro, for a bio break.
The new Boeing 737 Max 8 jets will fly from Fortaleza and Brasilia in Brazil to Miami and Orlando in Florida. There will be extra legroom available to premium economy passengers – 86.4 cm of leg room as compared to 78.7 cm in standard economy.
Gol airline believes that passengers will be willing to pay more for increased convenience in the flight. The higher rates will help Gol to offset the rising fuel costs. If the passengers love the initiative, it may lead more passenger airlines to take similar action.
