DOT: Philippines received more than 1.2 million Chinese tourists in 2018

Philippines had more than 1.2 million Chinese tourists in 2018 and is the second largest source of international tourists as per the Department of Tourism (DOT).

 

 

The arrivals from China was 1,255,258 showing an improved market with 29.62 percent growth rate.

 

 

In 2018 Philippines received a total of 7.1 million foreign  tourists which was the highest number in the country’s tourism industry.

 

 

As per DOT the improvement came at a 7.6 per cent growth rate as compared to the 6.6 million record in 2017.

 

South Korea was the Philippines’ top source market in 2018 with 1,587,959 and the United States took the third spot with 1,034,396 arrivals.

 

 

Due to an increase in the direct air routes to the Philippines there has been a surge in Chinese tourists over the past years.

 

 

In 2016 the Chinese tourist grew from to 675,000 from 490,000 in 2015. It went to 968,000 in 2017. Tourism is a significant industry in Philippines benefiting majorly due to the renewed relationship with China.
