The Department of Tourism or DOT has taken a pledge to further develop its services and regain the top position in the list of the best islands in the world after Palawan slide down from the ranking by an international travel magazine.
Palawan and Cebu made their position in the list in the Travel+Leisure magazine poll of 15 Best Islands in the World for 2018. Palawan positioned 6th as Cebu was placed in the 8th spot.
The island of Palawan was voted number 1 back in 2013, 2016, and 2017 respectively. In the meantime, the country’s “Queen City of the South” made its return in the annual list of the magazine after its 6th ranking back in 2016.
“It will be a challenge for us to regain the top spot next year. These rankings are votes from the public. We take it upon ourselves to further improve our services not just in Palawan but across the archipelago,” said Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
For the meantime, in spite of its on-going rehabilitation, the Boracay Island was positioned 8th in the Asian islands ranking.
Puyat explained that they welcome the results of the poll.
“We are pleased with the results of this year’s Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. Even Boracay, which is taking its beauty rest still ranked among the best in Asia,” said Puyat.
In its article in 2017, the Travel+Leisure stated that Palawan attracts travelers across the globe because of its “unspoiled, sugar-white beaches and world-class scuba diving,” with one reader hailing it as ” the “single most beautiful place on Earth.”
The magazine carried out it’s ‘World’s Best Awards Survey’ yearly, in which its readers share their travel experiences and opinions. “Readers rated islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value,” it said.
