Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said that Belarus has a high tourism potential, as he met with Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. During the meeting, Makei informed the UNWTO secretary general about Belarus’ plans to intensify cooperation with this authoritative international organization.
In 2016, Belarus appointed its Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization (Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko), and is now thinking about nominating a candidate to the UNWTO Executive Council. Belarus is ready to host one of the organizations’ major events.
Dr. Rifai gave a positive appraisal of Belarus’ tourism potential and steps taken to put it to effective and sustainable use in accordance with the recommendations and best practices of the organization.
He expressed his willingness to continue to provide Belarus with the UNWTO advisory assistance for increasing tourism attractiveness and visibility of Belarusian regions and some of the country’s key cultural and natural heritage assets.
