Before taking off with 99 passengers and a total of six airline crew, the crew members of the Sunwing Airlines flight found the pilot to slump over in his seat, inside the cockpit.
The flight was scheduled to depart from Calgary in Alberta and it was supposed to reach Cancun in Mexico after making two stops on its way.
The local police informed that the crew members of the airport, who saw the pilot at the gate, found him to be acting strangely and after a while, the co-pilot of the jet found him to be unconscious inside the cockpit.
Paul Stacey, the Calgary sergeant informed that they found him slumped over in the seat and he was the captain of the jet.
The authorities removed the drunken captain from the jet and he was charged with impairment. The police later found a blood alcohol level of over 0.08 in his system, which is way over the actual limit.
Janine Massey, the spokeswoman for Sunwing Airlines later confirmed the incident and informed that it was ‘very unfortunate’.
The flight finally took off on 31st December from Calgary, after the airline sent another pilot to fly the jet.
