Dubai now has the world’s largest Ferris wheel, nearly 250ft taller than the London Eye. Called the ‘Ain Dubai’ the 690ft tall observation wheel in the world is expected to attract more than three million visitors a year. The giant attraction is now halfway complete.
The attraction is part of a one billion pound entertainment project called The Bluewaters Island. “The wheel will distinctively dominate the Dubai skyline,” said Abdullah Al Habbai, chairman of developers Meraas Holding.
He added, “This project will continue to build on the emirate’s reputation as a leader in the global entertainment and retail landscape.”
The first phase of construction will include the island itself, the Ain Dubai and entertainment and retail zones, along with low-rise residential buildings.
The Ain Dubai upon full completion will offer stunning views of Dubai’s coastline and landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa.
Dubai’s new Ferris wheel will come with a capacity to carry up to 1,400 passengers in 48 capsules. An 80-metre LED screen is also expected to be mounted onto the wheel, which will be used for broadcasts, advertisements and other announcements. The wheel is made of 9000 tonnes of steel.
