city of DurbanThe city of Durban is all set to re-brand itself and have set aside about R30 million for its marketing in the international media.

Phillip Sithole the city’s Head of Business Support and Tourism made this announcement at the re-launch of the brand – Durban – on Wednesday.

“By 2020, the city hopes to have increased tourist spending to R10 billion,” Sithole said.

He says that one cannot expect people to visit your place if they do not know about it.

“So over and above the events that we are hosting in the city, we have decided to have well defined programmes with international television stations to market the city.”

Sithole says they will also be taking the Durban experience across the globe.

“We want to take the Durban experience to the world, take our culture, the way we live and lifestyle and so on and we package it together and we present it to the world.”
