The four new packages allow nature lovers to swim with humpback whales nurturing newborn calves in the warm, tropical waters of Tonga in August and September next year.
Australian-based eco operator, Majestic Whale Encounters, runs unique whale-swim holidays in Tonga every year, with guests staying in beachside bungalows on the idyllic coral island of Foa in Tonga’s Ha’apai group of islands, 40 minutes north by air from the capital, Nuku’alofa.
The personalised nature tours allow snorkellers to swim with the majestic mammals, which measure up to 19m long, while maintaining safe, non-invasive guidelines set by the Responsible Whale Watching code in Tonga.
In 2016, Majestic Whale Encounters will offer two seven-night whale swim packages from August 30 and September 22, 2016, and two nine-night holidays from September 6 and 13, 2016. The packages include accommodation on Ha’apai island, all main meals, swimming with whales over five days, extra days at leisure, snorkelling equipment, all transfers, and return, domestic flights from Nuku’alofa to Ha’apai.
For bookings made by July 1, 2015, the seven-night packages are priced from $3891 per person, twin-share, which is a saving of $200 per person. And earlybird fares for the nine-night packages are available from $4229 per person, twin-share, which is also a discount of $200 per person. The discount is only available for twin-share bookings.
Flights to Tonga from Australia (five hours direct) with Virgin Australia or from New Zealand with Air New Zealand and Virgin are extra.
“Swimming with these beautiful, gracious creatures as they sing and play in the turquoise lagoons of Tonga is really a very special, once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Majestic Whale Encounter Managing Director, Carmen Ellis. “You emerge from the water awestruck by the beauty of nature so it’s definitely an experience to cherish forever,” Carmen said.
