45 members of the Everyone Can Sing choir will burst into song as they board the train and customers will be encouraged to join in with the sing-along. The choir will give out free songbooks with the lyrics inside to help customers find their voice.
Tunes from the Singing Train songbook include Hi Ho Silver Lining, Lean On Me, Yesterday, Dancing Queen, Wonderwall and 500 Miles. Classics such as Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and James’ 90s hit, Sit Down, are among the choir’s favourites. They will be accompanied by Martin Roscoe on the guitar.
Simon Thompson, who is the founder and organiser of Everyone Can Sing events, said: “What a great occasion this will be to have so many people on board the train singing. We truly believe that anyone can sing and that it can help improve emotional wellbeing so it will be a fantastic opportunity to encourage lots of people to do so.
“It will be great to have members of the public joining in; there will be a real feeling of togetherness. We’d like to thank East Midlands Trains for their hospitality.”
Sarah Turner, General Manager for East Midlands Trains, said: “The choir will already be in great voice as they depart on the 1004 from Beeston. By the time we see off the second half of the group at Nottingham, they will really be in full swing.
“This will be a really special event and we’re thankful to the choir for initiating this idea and brightening up the journeys for many of our customers.”
After a packed afternoon of singing and performing, the choir will head back from Newark Castle to Beeston and Nottingham stations where they will take a well-earned break.
