East Midlands TrainsEast Midlands Trains will be marking the first ever Rail Week this week with a series of events designed to promote careers in the rail industry. Events will take place with students from Pear Tree Primary School to highlight the benefits of a career in the rail industry as well as providing opportunities for armed forces service leavers to find out more about the roles available at East Midlands Trains.

Rail Week is led by Young Rail Professionals and is a dedicated week of activity, bringing together all parts of the rail industry; including passenger train companies, Network Rail, freight operators and others to inspire young people at schools, colleges and universities and encourage them to consider a career in the rail industry.

On Tuesday 28 June, Etches Park Maintenance Depot in Derby will be opening up its doors to give armed forces service leavers the opportunity to find out more about the roles on offer at East Midlands Trains. There will also be chance for people to have a tour around the depot.

On Wednesday 29 June, two classes of 10-year olds from Pear Tree Primary School will be having a tour of Derby station, talking to the staff who work on trains and at stations about their roles and will also have a trip out on a train.

On Thursday 30 June, the East Midlands Trains talent team will be holding a twitter careers chat between 3.30pm and 4.30pm to answer any questions people may have about careers in the rail industry, as well as providing tips on CV writing and interview skills.

Christopher Buckley, Talent Manager for East Midlands Trains, said: ““Rail Week is a great opportunity to meet with young people, or anyone considering a change in career to show how rewarding, diverse and exciting a job in the rail industry can be.

“The rail industry offers lots of different careers and opportunities across a wide range of roles and we’re pleased to be joining the first Rail Week to spread the message about the exciting opportunities on offer.

“As well as linking up with Pear Tree Primary School, we’ll also be hosting a careers twitter chat where we’ll be on hand to answer any questions about roles available and also giving some tips and hints on CV writing and interview skills.

“We’ve also found that the railway is a popular choice for armed forces service leavers, so we’ll be opening the doors of our maintenance depot in Derby for people to find out more about the roles we have on offer.”
