Customers travelling on East Midlands Trains services between Nottingham and Peterborough are set to benefit from a new on-board catering service which will be fully rolled out from Monday 14 December.
An at-seat catering trolley service will be provided on 24 trains every weekday, offering hot and cold drinks, snacks and sandwiches at competitive prices. This is the first time a catering service has ever been offered on this part of the busy Liverpool to Norwich route by East MIdlands Trains, and represents the company’s major investment to deliver an improved experience for its customers.
East Midlands Trains will be investing around £13million over the next two years in customer improvements. Other improvements include cleaner stations and trains, easier travel with more ticket machines and extra help-points and investment in accessibility enhancements.
Adrian Allen, Service Proposition Manager for East Midlands Trains said: “We’re really pleased to be launching new catering services on our trains between Nottingham and Peterborough for the first time.
“We know how important it is for our customers to be able to have a drink or a snack whilst they’re on the move, and the new service will deliver a significantly improved service for the thousands of people who use this route every day.”
John Saunders, Chair of the Peterborough-Ely-Norwich Rail User Group said: “We know that passengers really appreciate the catering trolleys and have often asked whether they could come east of Nottingham. Added to the new seats, improved toilets and upgraded public address systems, they will make a journey by train even more enjoyable. We wish this venture every success.”
Catering services are already available on trains from Liverpool to Nottingham, and the new service being fully rolled out from today (Monday 14 December) will mean this is extended through to Peterborough.
Since the start of the franchise in 2007, East Midlands Trains has delivered major improvements to the Liverpool to Norwich route with extra carriages, an improved timetable and a major refurbishment of all the trains.
In addition to the improvements on the Liverpool to Norwich line, East Midlands Trains is also investing in additional staff on its London trains and will be extending its complimentary First Class breakfast onto weekend trains.
