In 2016, Edinburgh reached a record height in terms of its highest ranking almost in a decade in the global ranking of business tourism destinations in International Congress and Convention Association. The city rose to eight places and occupied 27th ranking in its global city rankings for international association meetings after organizing 76 ICCA recognized meetings in 2016, as confirmed by the ICCA. This position is estimated to have added more than £35m in economic benefit to the city.
Last year, Edinburgh was voted the most popular meeting destination outside London and ranked fifth in general. The capital city also moved up the ICCA European rankings from 20th position to the 18th. Besides, the city had organized many high profile conferences in 2016. Some of them are like the Autism-Europe Congress, SPIE Astronomical Telescopes & Instrumentation, International Society of Applied Ethology Congress, and the Congress of the European Society of Agronomy respectively.
In 2016, Glasgow ranked 50th in the world with 51 ICCA recognized meetings and was ranked 27th in the ICCA European rankings. London was the highest ranking UK city with 153 recognized meetings, making it fifth in world rankings. However, Paris ranked top city last year with more than 196 meetings altogether.
