Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism said about his intention to appoint several of Jamaica’s Honorary Consuls in Europe as, unpaid Tourism Advisors to his office, since he works on significantly boosting market share for tourists to Jamaica from several key European countries.
This announcement was made by the Minister after engagements with Honorary Consuls from around Europe at Jamaica’s Embassy in Berlin, Germany on Monday March 7. This move will be completed after consultations with Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Kamina Johnson-Smith.
To quote Minister Bartlett, “Among the roles of the Tourism Advisors, most of whom reside in cities and countries where Jamaica has little or no presence, is to work closely with the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism in marketing the destination, attracting investments for the sector, assist in coordinating increased airlift arrangements from several European destinations into Jamaica and be the point of contact for all government related tourism activities in their respective countries and cities.”
Minister Bartlett is currently in Berlin and participating at ITB Berlin, world’s largest tourism tradeshow and also in the International Hotel Investment Forum, which focuses on providing opportunities to those who currently operate within the tourism industry or who want to do business in the sector, which includes government and tourism officials.
