The tourists were killed on 13 September 2015 when they were out for lunch in the vast Western desert on their way to the Bahariya oasis.
The tourists fell under gun attack from plane and helicopters. The tourism federation says that the tourists had entered restricted area and that is the reason they were mistakenly killed.
The three families have agreed to not press charges after receiving payment through bank transfer from the government. The other families are also being negotiated with. Three of the eight families have agreed to negotiate with the government.
The federation agreed to pay the families after an investigation found that the travel agency looking after the tourists was responsible for their deaths.
The travel agents should have shown more clarity on the permit, they are eventually more responsible for the death of the tourists felt the Mexican foreign minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu.
