Witnesses at this famous landmark of Paris said on Friday evening that armed officers have cordoned this area off. French policemen have said that a man had been arrested and an investigation has also been launched to detect his true motives.
Reports across social media platforms claims that he had been ‘acting suspiciously’.
Many people turned to social media to vent out their frustration at not being able to access this popular tourist attraction in Paris. Many more, explained in details how they were locked inside the lifts in Eiffel Tower and the air of doom spreading through them when they learnt that they would have to wait another 30 minutes before the situation can be brought under control.
Some of them said that the tourists were offered chairs as they waited and the entire area under the tower was cleared.
One of the local journalists from Paris shared a footage on digital media portraying the scene that showed officers and police vans clearing the area.
Later, the tower had been closed around 8 p.m. BST and reportedly reopened 30 minutes later. French police said that they had arrested a man near the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Friday. An official at Paris police mentioned that the incident is currently normalized especially since a man has been arrested, being suspected of his association with the incident.
The man, however, was not armed, he added.
