truckA rented truck ploughed through people on a bike path in Manhattan killing at least eight people while leaving around eleven injured.  Joint Terrorism Task Force investigated the attack and mentioned it to be the worst incident of terrorism post the 9/11 attacks.

The ‘cowardly act of terrorism’ left bikes strewn along the path that ran alongside the West Side highway in Manhattan. The videos and pictures also showed people being lifted into ambulances on stretchers.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) took one person in custody, the suspect was identified by the US media as Sayfullo Saipov of Tampa. The 29-year-old- is reportedly a Ukbek national who came to the US in 2010. However, the NYPD did not confirm the name of the suspect.

The truck was crashed into a bus injuring many people along with children, he later fled the vehicle carrying paintball gun and a pellet gun. After being shot in the stomach he was taken to the hospital although he has managed to survive.

The officials said that the truck after entering the bike path at Houston street drove through the popular recreational area on the west side of the Manhattan. The number of injured ranges between 11 to 15.

The police said that the suspect deliberately targeted the bus and smashed into a school bus leaving to kids injured and two adults.

Bill DeBlasio, New York city Mayor lamented the death and said that the cowardly act of terror killed innocent civilians who had no idea about what was about to hit them.

New York and other cities have been on high alert, till now no terror group has yet laid claim to the attack. There were detailed instructions released by the Isis on carrying out vehicle attacks intensifying calls for global atrocities.

There were several rounds of instructions being carried out by the Isis on how to apply vehicles in deadly rampages, it further cited pedestrianised areas and crowded streets to be the prime targets.
