Eight passengers at the Stansted airport suffered injuries during plane evacuation

 The runway at Stansted airport in Essex saw eight passengers getting injured during the evacuation of a plane.

 

 

At 8pm the Airbus A320 belonging to Laudamotion was departing while accelerating along the runway for departure a loud bang was heard.

 

V1, the take-off decision speed was not reached by the aircraft and the pilots aborted the departure. There were orders for emergency evacuation as the plane had stopped.

 

 

When leaving the aircraft 169 passengers sustained minor injuries.  Some passengers took their cabin baggage which was against the safety rule and the problem was in the left-hand CFM56 engine.

 

 

The airline mentioned that the crew decided to abort the take off due to engine issues and leave the passengers on the runway as  a precautionary measure.

 

 

There were transfers to the terminal by bus for the passengers and re-accommodation onto a  replacement flight.

 

 

The stranded passengers were picked up from a replacement aircraft from Vienna.

Around 13 incoming flight were diverted due to the blocked runway.Among them were Ryanair, two easyJet, Pegasus and one Air Moldova.

 

 

The passengers of ten diverted aircraft had their passengers offloaded at the road transport provided back to Stansted.

 

 

While on three of the Ryanair flights, the passengers were still on board and were later taken to Stansted.

 

 

So far two easyJet flights, to Glasgow and Belfast were cancelled and other departures saw heavy delays and passengers on their return legs arrived at the Essex airport in early hours.

 

 

 

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB)  had deployed a team to Stansted Airport to investigate an incident involving an Airbus A320.

 

 

The Stansted Airport apologized for the disruption caused by the incident but their first priority was the safety of passengers and the staff.

 

 

In 2018 the Laudamotion was created when the Austrian racing driver Niki Lauda, acquired an existing Austrian carrier, Amira Air.

 

 

The purchase of the airline by Ryanair was done In January and is operated parallel with the main airline. It is known to use Airbus rather than the Boeing jets.
