Vinicius Lummertz , President, Embratur, Brazil speaks exclusively to Travel And Tour World at WTM 2016. Read the full interview here:-
Travel And Tour World: Post the Rio Olympics 2016, what are the plans for the Embratur of Brazil?
Vinicius Lummertz: I think Brazil has done has a wonderful job in the process of internationalization. I think the sequence of very large events since 2007 has transformed Brazil as a country. Post the World Cup and Rio Olympics, Brazil has come into the limelight. It was hard because unfortunately we had to face the economic crisis, political crisis and prejudice, especially by the international brands. Despite all these crisis, Brazil being a developing country and a democracy, had organized a beautiful World Cup as well as the Olympics. We have to promote new tourist destinations, invest more and we are promoting a new brand for Embratur, as we have completed 50 years. We have to improve our business relations as well. Not only do we have to understand the foreign tourists but we have to keep in mind the Brazilian tourist too. There are almost 200 million Brazilian tourists within Brazil. 54% of the tourists in Brazil are from North America, so altogether it is a very viable market for the international companies to interact. We are at the moment concentrating on showing the Brazilian Government that these rates for tourism is valid to improve the cities, to improve the culture as well as attracting more tourists.
Travel And Tour World: All the major sports tournaments of Brazil was focused on Rio, so how is this going to attract more tourists to other parts of Brazil?
Vinicius Lummertz: Brazil is a well connected country. We have 12 cities in Brazil that are well connected with four major cities of Argentina. Same goes with Chile, Columbia and Peru. Every week almost 73 Portuguese Airlines flies to different parts of Brazil. American Airlines and United Airlines too flies frequently to different parts of Brazil. We have a rich cultural heritage which has a lot of surprising elements.
Travel And Tour World: What are the new surprising elements that Brazil has to offer the tourists?
Vinicius Lummertz: Brazil has such a diverse culture. If you see the Rio Olympic Opening Ceremony, we have showcased various glimpses of Brazil in Rio. Brazil has hundreds of different destinations to offer the tourists.
