Donald Trump, the US president has landed in Paris and a show of military pomp by the French leader, Emmanuel Macron awaits him. The French leader has selected to move from his firm first handshake to “straight-talking” best friend style on international stage.
Trump is currently on a 24-hour visit to Paris. Here Macron will escort him to Napoleon’s tomb. Besides, he would take the President to dinner at the Eiffel Tower, followed by watching the Bastille Day military parade on the Champs Elysées.
The centrist president’s request to the US Trump might appear astonishing to the world, after he openly declared his power by crunching Trump’s knuckles in May during their first meeting and afterward reprimanded him for pulling out US from the Paris climate accord.
Christophe Castaner, a government minister and spokesman, explained it as a type of influential bridge-building with the US president. “Sometimes Trump makes decisions we don’t like, such as on climate. But we can deal with it in two ways: we can say ‘We are not going to talk to you,’ or we can offer you our hand to bring you back into the circle,” he said.
However, the invitation of the French leader is part of a strong-minded strategy by Macron.
