The airplane that had been delayed for an hour and took off around 11.30 p.m. was carrying about 183 passengers on board.
Almost immediately following take-off the pilots got in touch with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) for carrying out an emergency landing. Airport officials mentioned that a full emergency was announced as soon as the ATC alerted the operator.
The aircraft landed absolutely safely.
After that Indigo had put the passengers on an alternative aircraft.
A spokesperson of Indigo said that Indigo flight 6E 565(BOM-BLR) had confronted with a technical issue while it was airborne. After the standard operating procedures the pilots immediately took the precautionary step of returning to Mumbai for necessary checks.
The spokesperson said that another aircraft was offered to complete the flight.
The spokesperson also said that the matter was brought to the attention of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the aviation regulator who also added that the incident is currently being investigated by its flight safety department.
Passengers said that they were compelled to sit in the same airplane for an hour before they were shifted to another one.
