Enhancing tourism cooperation between Vietnam- Japan

VNNBOn the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship establishment between Viet Nam- Japan, on 1st Nov., the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) held the 5th Meeting of Viet Nam-Japan Tourism Co-operation in Ha Noi.

 

The meeting was co-chaired by the Deputy Director General of VNAT, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong and Deputy Director of JNTO, Mr. Yasuhiro Shinohara. In the attendance were chairman of Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), Mr. Jungo Kikuma; Vice President of Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), Mr. Vu The Binh and representatives of VNAT, JNTO, JATA, VITA and businesses, press agencies of the two countries…

 

Since the Joint Declaration on tourism cooperation and the establishment of the Tourism Cooperation Committee in 2005, the tourism cooperation between Viet Nam and Japan has been developing strongly.

 

In the stage of 2003-2012, Japanese visitors to Viet Nam increased by 2.75 times, with average growth of 12% per year. In 2012, there were 580,000 Japanese arrivals to Viet Nam, up by 19.7% over the previous year, acounting for 8.42% of the total Viet Nam’s inbound tourists, ranking 3rd after China and South Korea. In ten months of 2013, there were more than 500,000 Japanese arrivals to Viet Nam, up by 5.6% versus a year earlier.

 

From 2006-2012, Vietnamese visitors to Japan were up by 2.2 times, with average growth of 14% per year. In 2012, there were 55,000 Vietnamese arrivals to Japan, up by 37.4% over 2011. In the first eight months of 2013, there were more than 53,000 Vietnamese arrivals to Japan, up by 52% in comparison with the same period last year.

 

In order to facilitate tourists exchange, Viet Nam has applied visa waiver policy for Japanese tourists since 2004. From July 2013, Japan has also issued multiple entry visa for Viet Nam’s citizens. Currently, there are direct flights from 4 major Japanese cities including Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka to Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

 

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to further enhance tourism cooperation in tourists exchange, technical support, human resource development; tourism investment, organizing tourism fairs; organizing farmtrips for travel businesses; launching new direct flights  between Viet Nam and Japan; opening new travel offices to strengthen promotional activities …

 

Tourism cooperation has been contributing to promotion of mutual exchanges and understanding as well as strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries.
