Environment Canada warns of severe cold weather

winter weatherEnvironment Canada has forecast that the Fort Nelson region could see wind gusts later Friday up to 70 km/h, which will cause the windchill to reach minus 35 degrees Celsius at times.

Gusty winds with snow and cold wind chill to develop Friday afternoon. This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..

An intense low developing over the Alaskan Panhandle acting with a building ridge of high pressure over the Yukon will result in increasing east to northeast winds this afternoon.


These winds gusting at times to 70 km/h with newly fallen snow will create reduced visibilities in blowing snow. As well cold wind chill values down to minus 35 Celsius are expected as temperatures remain cold. Conditions are forecast to improve somewhat later Sunday.
