Ethiopia is undertaking further efforts to become one of the top ten tourist destinations in Africa by 2020, revealed President Mulatu Teshome. While attending the annual Christmas celebration Friday in the town of Lalibella in northern Ethiopia, the president mentioned the government-led initiative.
According to the President, building hotels and road infrastructures is among the investment activities aimed at extending time spent by foreigners in Ethiopia. He further added that the government also relies on huge investment activities which will enhance tourist flow and build the country’s positive image.
The untapped potentials in tourism should be properly utilized with a view to creating new jobs and developing the nation, Dr. Mulatu said.
Lalibella, where the president laid a cornerstone for a multipurpose hall, is an important centre of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
The event was also attended by Chief Administrator of the state of Amhara Gedu Andargachew and Minister of Culture and Tourism Engineer Aisha Mohammed and other senior officials.
