Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Director of the Ethiopia Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCIT) mentioned that his ministry stakeholders to boost the country’s hospitality industry capacity and further want to diversify the nationality of foreign tourists visiting the nation.
In the Ethiopian Fiscal Year 2010 ( 2017/2018) , Ethiopia earned 3.5 billion U.S. dollars from 934,000 tourists visiting the country.
MoCIT is working to attract tourists from the world’s most populous nation, China which showed growth despite facing unrest since 2016.
In order to dramatically increase the number of Chinese tourist the MoCT is encouraging Chinese investment in Ethiopia’s hopsitlaity sector.
Tourism will be made a major hard currency earner and Ethiopia will be implementing incentives for entrepreneurs involved in the tourism and hospitality sector.
In 2017 the nation earned 169.6 million U.S dollars from 45,3017 Chinese tourists visiting the country.
There has been a steady increase from 2016 in the number of Chinese tourist.
