Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has received an Award as a World Leader of Tourism and a member of European Tourism Academy for his recognition of the role and significance of tourism on world stage.
The Premier received the Award from the European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT) at a ceremony held at the National Palace.
ECTT has also recognized Ethiopia as the number one World Best Tourist Destination and Favorite Cultural Destination Distinction for 2015.
“This award further inspires Ethiopia to offer more impressive cultural and tourist attractions and services to tourists across the world,” Hailemariam said after receiving the award.
The government of Ethiopia is committed to protect and preserve historical and cultural legacies and “we believe it is in this recognition of this unique arrangement among other things that ECTT decided to extend to Ethiopia the world best tourist destination award.”
The flow of tourists to Ethiopia has grown significantly during the last decade as the country was able to provide better services that encouraged tourists to spend longer time and explore Ethiopia’s remarkable and beautiful attractions, he said.
Ethiopia will continue to develop the tourism sector and use it as a means for diplomatic cooperation with other countries, he said.
ECTT President Professor Dr. Anton Caragea on his part said Ethiopia has rich cultural, historical and natural attraction sites that attract various tourists from various parts of the country.
The excellent humanity and landmarks, the rich cultural and historical legacy of Ethiopia are among other reasons for awarding Ethiopia the world best tourist destination for 2015 prize, he said.
“This amazing award will tremendously help Ethiopia’s tourism industry,” he said.
“We believe the recognition conferred on us today can be one of the testimonies of the success we attained as the result of the efforts made in the first Growth and Transformation Plan GTP),” Culture and Tourism Minister, Amin Abdulkadir, said.
It’s also a great inspiration and additional energy for us in the implementation of the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), he stated.
The government of Ethiopia takes tourism as one of the important sectors to bringing about all-rounded development in the nation, according to Amin.
