ETIAS gets nod by European Parliament, pre-screening for visa exempt nationals

Under the new rule supported by the parliament, the European Union has adopted a new European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) which will exempt third-country nationals from travelling to the Schengen area after getting an authorisation.

 

 

 

The ETIAS will be effective in 2021 and will assess who is entering the EU from where and will it be risky or cause a threat to EU security.

 

 

The latest enforcement will help in easing the travel process to the EU with simpler border checks.

 

World Travel And Tourism Council (WTTC) welcomed that the need of travel and tourism were considered along with ensuring enhanced EU security. WTTC also stressed on the importance of process to be made as easy for legitimate travellers.

 

It also advocated for nominal fees so that travllers are not discouraged from visiting Europe.The ETIAS will be free for traveler under the age of 18 and those over 70.

 

 

Gloria Guevara, president & CEO World Travel & Tourism Council said that she believes that this is an important step in the digitaliastion of travel sector. Use of biometric technology will be the next step to provide seamless, efficient and more secure travel.

 

 

ETIAS application will be  quick and simple process that will not require more than a travel document, credit card and access to the internet.According to the WTTC statement a majority of the applicants will get feedback within minutes. Considering the situation of the traveller different possibilities will be offered.
