Flight EY042 that had left Dublin Airport around 8.30 a.m. on Friday was travelling towards Abu Dhabi. This passenger plane was compelled to be diverted to Al Minhad Air Base following an onboard security threat.
There were several Irish passengers on board the flight of Etihad Airways.
The crew members were done with the necessary in flight checks according to the official procedures. They found no abnormalities. However, the flight authorities issued further instructions to go about additional security checks the Air Base, as declared by an official spokesperson of Etihad Airways.
The passengers on board the flight had to undergo ‘additional security screening’ which consumed several hours.
While the security screening was under process, the guests were accommodated in the Air Base. Also, they were offered refreshments. They were then escorted through buses to Abu Dhabi Airport in order to be processed through the terminal, as asserted by the spokesperson.
A large number of passengers were offered re-booked flights on Saturday morning.
Also, they were provided overnight accommodation in Abu Dhabi. Etihad Airways officially moved to its new home in Terminal 1, Dublin Airport earlier during this month.
