Etihad at the MENA Games:
Why is Etihad Airways sponsoring the Special Olympics?
Etihad Airways is sponsoring the Special Olympics because we see this as a truly remarkable opportunity for Abu Dhabi, and as the national carrier of the UAE, we are immensely proud to be supporting this first for the country and the region.
By partnership with the Special Olympics we are providing a platform to connect with people through sports, inclusively, while displaying the warmth and hospitality of the Emirati culture.
It is interesting to note that many of the sports included in the Special Olympics are already supported by Etihad Airways through other channels. There is football, of course, with the likes of Manchester City and Major League Soccer in the U.S, cycling through the Abu Dhabi Tour and ITU World Triathlon and golf with events such as the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open (Ladies European Tour).
What is Etihad Airways’ involvement with Special Olympics?
The airline will be flying in athletes, equipment, coaches, dignitaries and the media for the occasion, supported by Hala Abu Dhabi, the destination Management Company, and Etihad Cargo. Airline staff will be working with the Special Olympics team to share hospitality expertise in order to deliver the best possible guest experience.
A wider programme of support and engagement in the lead up, during and after the Special Olympics will be developed by Etihad Airways in the coming months.
Is the involvement with Etihad Airways and Special Olympics a profit making initiative?
It’s not a profit initiative, rather it’s a giving initiative. Etihad will be providing flight support – and a number of other benefits to the Special Olympics. Remember too, this sponsorship announcement comes after 2017 was officially declared as the Year of Giving by the UAE government. Etihad Aviation Group’s strategy follows on from the government’s three Year of Giving pillars: Corporate Social Responsibility, Volunteering and Serving the Nation.
What service do Etihad Airways offer onboard for guest travelling with special needs?
An awareness training programme has been developed for all Etihad cabin crew and customer facing staff to provide guidance and assist them on how to engage with people with determination.
