European Tourism invites attendees to join accessible tourism conference

Published on : Wednesday, January 13, 2016

European CommissionRegistration for the joint conference on the European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS) and accessible tourism is now open. The event takes place on 28 January 2016.

The European Commission is organising the joint conference on ETIS and ‘Managing and promoting sustainable and accessible tourism destinations’.

The event aims to present the assessment of the ETIS pilot phases (2013 and 2014) carried out for several destinations across Europe, with a focus on accessible tourism.

A parallel workshop with an accessible tourism world café will also take place.

The Commission will provide its recommendations and suggested improvements for the ETIS toolkit (made with the support of the ETIS pool of experts), including examples of best practices from destinations on sustainability and accessibility.

The audience will be informed about potential synergies between ETIS and the environmental tool, EMAS (the European Eco-management and Audit Scheme), and the European Environmental Agency. They will also be made aware of possible interactions between ETIS and European or international organisations such as the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, the Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism, Europarc and the European Network for Accessible Tourism.

As CEO/owner of Palm Beach County Cruise and Travel Inc. I have dedicated 25 years supporting disabled individuals by providing cruises and tours in the USA and Alaska for disability group from the States. We have taken upwards of 300 families on cruises to Alaska via different cruise ships and tours.

After reading your article on your conference being offered Jan. 28th, My ear perked up and I am presently trying to get a delegation from the USA to attend including myself.

Do you already have a group from the USA Gov’t or private sector from the USA attending this event?

As a shortage of time may be a problem rounding up the proper group to make this event, I will surely try and attend to carry back the info and add my Disability experience.

Thank you for your speedy response,

    Sandra Cline
