London’s Excel this week organized the World Travel Market. It is the most important annual tourism event of the UK, where deals worth around £3bn are estimated to have been signed. Almost 50,000 visitors have attended the event, and almost 5,000 companies’ world over have exhibited in the event.

It has been the best chance to show the buyers that our destinations, products, and services are worth investing in, and that the UK is, and will carry on being fully open for businesses.

Tourism shows the world the best of our nation. We have so much to provide the overseas visitors – gorgeous landscapes, world-class culture, and unique heritage sites. We are a global country, and have always been a must-visit destination.

The withdrawal of the UK from the European Union is not going to alter anyway. In fact, VisitBritain hopes for a record 40.9m international visits to our shores this year alone.

We are totally committed to maintaining a positive relationship with EU member states and the wider world. After all, Europe profits from access to the UK tourism market too.

Last year, EU member states accounted for 75 percent of the 72m visits overseas by UK residents, and 65 percent of the UK’s 39m inbound visits were from EU residents.

These statistics shows why we have been very clear that, after March next year, we want a continuance of UK-EU flights at attractive prices and of visa-free travel for UK and EU-based tourists.
