European Commission backs Romania with 129 million euro for railway modernization

RomaniaThe European Commission provides 129 million euro to Romania for the modernization of railways, which will enhance the economic growth along with the travel and tourism industry.

 

 

The money backing from European Union, made available under the EC Cohesion Fund.

 

 

It will be invested in the upgrade of a railway section linking Curtici. Curtici is located on the border between Romania and Hungary, with the Black Sea port city of Constanta.

 

 

The railway works will cut travel times and increase safety by rehabilitating and upgrading 13 stations along the section. It is improving passenger with signalling and information systems and building the necessary infrastructure, such as bridges and tunnels.

 

 

Corina Cretu, European Commissioner for Regional Policy says that each euro of the European Union budget has invested the railway sector increases with territorial cohesion and economic competitiveness in Romania.

 

 

It also helps in improving its connection with Hungary and the rest of Europe, and ensures ecological, fast and secure mobility. This is a project with an European Union funding of 65% and an added value of 100%.

 

The Curtici-Constanta railway connection, part of Orient-Est-Med and Rhine-Danube corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN -T), crosses Romania from west to east.
