Austrian Airlines brought the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) Light of Peace from Tel Aviv to Austria for the 31st time. Flight OS 858 with the valuable cargo on board landed safely at Vienna Airport Friday night. The transport was accompanied by this year’s designated light of peace child from the “Silent Night” town of Hochburg-Ach in the District of Braunau, Austria, Peace of Light Project Manager Günther Hartl from the ORF regional studio in Upper Austria and Wolfgang Kerndler, Flight Safety & Security advisor at Austrian Airlines.
The 12-year-old boy belonging to the fire brigade youth lit the ORF Light of Peace in the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem on Friday, November 24, 2017, and brought it to Austria with the support of Austrian Airlines. The small light from Bethlehem shines throughout Europe on Christmas Eve, serving as a symbol of Christmas peace.
Austrian Airlines also transports the Light of Peace to New York and to Toronto. From there, the Light of Peace will be spread to the USA, Canada and parts of South America. The Light of Peace Campaign was created in 1986 at the initiative of the ORF regional studio in Upper Austria, and has been supported by Austrian Airlines since its inception.
