Retired veterans of the Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen’s Corporation (MESCO), recently launched ‘Veer Yatra’ in Pune, to spike up military tourism in India. It is an organized trip to any Indian military camp of choice, guided by retired army personnel.
Col (Retd) Suhas Jatkar, the Managing Director of MESCO disclosed that they are offering nine specially designed tour-packages, which ranges from two to eight days, with an expenditure of Rs. 6100 to Rs. 42990. These nine guided tours started the first adventure-trip from 12th May, 2016.
Col Jatkar informed, “Our idea is to cater to the entire spectrum of tourist. We have developed ‘Corporate Outbound Program @ Mahad’ wherein a corporate can easily do a MICE event.”
He also stated that the project will not only educate the civilians about the military, but they will also spark up sense of patriotism in the visitors, especially in children and youth.
MESCO is offering diversified options to pick from the naval camps in the coast of Maharashtra, the army camps of Gangtok and Darjeeling in the Northeast, and the Northern army camp of Amarnath. Some of the packages are offering helicopter rides to the camp.
The holiday packages consist of visits to military academies, high-altitude pickets, border posts beside the Line of Control (LOC), battlefields, and mountain passes like Zoji La, Nathu La etc.
Retired officials and the widows of the brave deceased soldiers are expected to be provided with more employment opportunities with the advent of this initiative.
