Tourism industry welcomes wish and prosperity to many lives worldwide and reveals its ability to increase job opportunities, stem rural exodus and churn out great revenues, said Tourism Minister Azmeera Chandulal on Thursday.
While speaking at the inaugural of a two-day Telangana Tourism Conclave organised by the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI), the Minister said, “Realising the potential of tourism sector, the State government is giving a strong thrust to the sector by implementing projects in the heritage circuit, eco-tourism and tribal tourism, showcasing the diverse flora and fauna, scenic locations and the rich history of the State”.
In his speech at the programme, which had tourism industry representatives all over the country speak to over 200 hospitality students in terms of the possibility of the industry and the salient features of Telangana as a tourism destination, Tourism Secretary Burra Venkatesham explained that the industry in India had not even realized one percent of its potential.
“There are only 10 million foreign tourist arrivals in a country of about 1.3 billion people. Even then, the tourism industry here provides great job opportunities and business revenues. If the tourism potential is realised up to 20 per cent, imagine the kind of jobs and revenues that can be created. Hospitality students have the opportunity of becoming millionaires and billionaires in this country,” he said. The sector was creating more jobs than manufacturing or agriculture sectors, he said adding, “No other business sector in the world is so future-perfect”.
Other speakers at the programme included FTAPCCI president Gowra Srinivas, Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) managing director Harmandeep Singh, and En Suite group president Tajamul Hussain.
