The entire city of Taipei has gone under panic mode as an explosive device has gone off inside a passenger train at Songshan Railway station. The blasts have injured 24 commuters on 7th July, Thursday.
The train had been heading towards Keelung from Taipei railway station.
According to the witnesses, three blasts were heard from inside the rail carriage. The blasts instantly made the rail car go into flames. Some of the passengers stated that they had seen a man to carry a bag inside the cabin right before the explosion.
The director of national police of Taiwan, Chen Kuo-en has informed that the explosive device was almost 20cms long and it looked like a fire cracker.
The bomb squad investigation team has informed that a metal tube has been found from a backpack with explosive materials stuffed inside.
Passengers have suffered burns and bruises as the train cabin has gone ablaze. A 14-year-old boy has experienced severe second to third degree burn on his face. Four other passengers have been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
At present, the National Security and the Criminal Investigation Bureau are inspecting the explosion and combing the blast site for clues.
The suspect is still on the run and according to the witnesses; he is possibly in his 40s.
The blast is believed to be the worst train blast noticed in Taipei. The security officials have stated that security in entire Taiwan has beefed up to ensure the safety of the citizens and tourists.
