The Business Tourism team from Fáilte Ireland is pitching for U.K. business worth up to euro 58m for the Irish economy. The team was in London as part of Fáilte Ireland’s annual Meet Dublin in London event, where Dublin was promoted as a conference, meetings and events destination.

In 2019, Meet Dublin in London event also focused on growing business tourism by supporting convention bureaux representatives from Galway, Shannon Region, Cork and Kerry in attendance.

Over 300 UK buyers met directly with Irish hoteliers, meeting venues and conference organisers to generate new business for the Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events (MICE) sector.

Fáilte Ireland considers business tourism as a priority sector as it helps businesses prepare for Brexit. Fáilte Ireland is aiming to win conferences worth €31m for locations outside Dublin this year, a 15% increase on last year.

As per Sam Johnston, Manager of Fáilte Ireland’s Convention Bureaux of Ireland team, Ireland stands out in the international marketplace as a business tourism destination thanks to its hospitality, ease of access, venues and industries. They look forward to bringing more U.K. business to Irish shores in the coming year and beyond.

Business tourism is currently worth at least euro 760m to the Irish economy and supports 22,000 jobs. Fáilte Ireland aims to bring the value of business tourism to the Irish economy over the euro 1 bn in next 6 years.

The annual Meet Dublin in London event is a key driver in generating U.K. business.
