fltThe Wild Atlantic Way will be awash with some of the most influential media from across the globe, as they undertake a tailored itinerary to learn more about the Surf & Bay Coast of Sligo and Mayo, in an overseas media blitz designed, hosted and managed by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland.

The top international journalists from Australia, Canada, Belgium and Germany have a combined readership/audience of nearly 12 million including one of the most widely read German-language news websites – Spiegel online.

A bespoke itinerary was devised by Fáilte Ireland for the media who will spend three days taking in the many activities, culture and heritage of the North West portion of the Wild Atlantic Way in Sligo and Mayo.  While in Sligo the group get to meet with Tom Hickey of Perfect Day Surfing to get advise on surfing in one of Ireland’s prime surfing locations – Strandhill; followed by horse riding with Ursula Schweiger, Island View Riding Stables, along the scenic coastline and then team up with Auriel Robinson for a walking trail of the coast; visit Martin Feeney’s farm for a sheepdog demonstration, Martin has turned his sheep farm into a tourism winner.

Speaking about the trip, Head of International Publicity, Ciara Sugrue said –

“Ireland’s North West offers so much to visitors– from incredible walks with breath-taking views to fantastic water sports, we are sure these international media will be more than keen to put the Wild Atlantic Way, and indeed Sligo and Mayo in the minds of their readers when they return home.

“These trips are a wonderful opportunity for overseas media to come and experience at first hand the Wild Atlantic Way and they are pivotal to positioning this successful Irish attraction in front of a global audience.  We trust that the visiting media will enjoy their time along the Wild Atlantic Way and encourage their many readers and followers to take the same journey and put it firmly on their ‘must-visit’ list.”

In addition to the attractions of Sligo, the group also enjoyed time in Mayo where they enjoyed a site visit to Mount Falcon Estate ahead of visiting Carne Golf Club, one of Ireland’s links courses; the group will then get to cycle along the Belmullet Peninsula with local guide Declan Conmy before spending time on Clare Island, taking in a visit to Maralla Farm and Yoga Retreat Centre as well as a guided walk up to Clare Island Lighthouse with local guide Brigid O’Leary before finishing the day with a visit to Beth Morn at Ballytoughey Loom, where she creates unique colours to produce handwoven goods.
