Fall in Love With Finland

Fall in Love With FinlandIn March 2016, Jiangsu Television Network’s wildly popular reality program We Are in Love, chose the northern Finnish region of Lapland as a the scenic backdrop for chronicling the budding romance of screen stars Chen Bolin and Song Ji-Hyo.

While Chen and Song fell in love with each other on screen, China fell in love with Lapland. Now, tour operators in Lapland are offering packages and services inspired by the same magic and romance Chen Bolin and Song Ji-Hyo experienced in their travels throughout the region.

Travellers can book a “Lapland Tour” just like the one Chen and Song went on in episode 6. A team of huskies will take them on an exhilarating journey by sled through the pristine Arctic wilderness to majestic Lake Lehtojärvi. While there, they can try their hand at ice fishing, and, like Chen and Song, they just might get lucky and catch dinner for the evening.

Families travelling to together will be thrilled to know that Lapland is home to Santa Claus. Father Christmas likes to keep his exact address a secret, but he keeps an official office in Rovaniemi, Lapland’s capital city. He’s available 365 days a year, and travellers can arrange an audience with him to share their Christmas wishes and try to get on his “nice” list.

The sauna is an integral part of Finnish culture. It not only revives the body and restores health, it is a uniquely Finnish social ritual that builds bonds between family and friends. No trip to Finland is complete without a steamy session. Travellers can experience the Finnish sauna just as Chen and Song did in episode 7 of We Are in Love at Metsäkyly, a lakeside sauna retreat surrounded by a lushly forested wilderness.

For the artistically inclined, Rovaniemi offers no shortage of opportunities to discover local handicrafts. The Lappish people are famous for their intricate carvings in reindeer antler and wood. Travellers can shop for exquisite pieces, like chandeliers and spoons hand-carved by local artisans. There are even workshops that will teach them how to carve their very own souvenirs from reindeer antler, or a traditional cup, like the one Chen Bolin fashioned as a token of his love for Song Ji-Hyo.

Finally, after an exhausting day of Arctic adventure, there is nothing like watching the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. This natural celestial phenomenon caused by solar winds creates an unforgettable romantic mood, and Lake Lehtojärvi is the perfect backdrop. Guided Aurora hunting tours can be booked for the occasion. Or for something a little more intimate, the splendour of the Aurora can be witnessed in the warmth and comfort of a nearby “glass igloo”.
