FCO warns British travellers to Spain over ‘balconing’

fco-warns-british-travellersThe Foreign & Commonwealth Office has warned British travellers to Spain not to take undue risks jumping from balconies when visiting the country.

The warning comes in the wake of a number of very serious accidents as a result of falls from balconies in recent years, with a number of Brits losing their lives.

“Many of these incidents have involved British nationals under the influence of drink or drugs,” warned the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in updated advice.

“Your travel insurance may not cover you for incidents that take place while you’re under the influence of drink or drugs.”

The FCO added that fines will be impose by some local councils on those caught behaving irresponsibly on balconies or practising ‘balconing’.

Notably, over 12 million British nationals visit Spain every year.
