Fifty Mils Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico, DF Launches Bespoke Mezcal

cq5dam.web.press.400.keepaspectratioContinuing in the spirit of innovation for which its new bar Fifty Mils is already renowned, Four Seasons Hotel Mexico, DF has partnered with Wahaka Mezcal, specialists in premium handmade mezcal, to develop an exclusive production of mezcal – just 100 bottles.

 

The unique libation is named Four Fifty Mezcal to honour the four friends who created it for Fifty Mils bar: Fifty Mils bartenders Axel Pimentel, Jimmy Morales and Mica Rousseau, and the mezcalero teacher Beto Morales, an accomplice in this adventure and a good friend of them.

 

“Beto guided us step by step through the whole process and experience of producing mezcal. He taught us everything from cutting the agaves to the process of making the distilled beverage. He was also very hospitable with us; we even ate and slept at his house!” says Jimmy.

 

The process of making this new mezcal is very unique as it respects its origins and own nature. They used a kind of agave named espadín, and in the third distillation whole fruits including mango and ripe Dominican banana were added. For the final touch, Moroccan mint and cardamom were added in the last distillation process to accentuate the aromas.

 

“We went to a palenque to immerse ourselves in the world of mezcal. We had the opportunity to learn how the oven is prepared and how to cut 40 agaves then cook them and make the distillation. We went to the local market, where we bought fresh fruit to then add to the mezcal. This technique is widely used in other spirits, such as gin for example, and gives our Four Fifty mezcal a one-of-a-kind flavour profile,“ says Mica.

 

This is the difference between an average mezcal and Four Fifty. One can perceive very light smoked flavours, fruity notes from the Dominican banana, some botanical and a little freshness from the mint tea as a finishing touch.

 

Guests can enjoy this new mezcal on its own or within a special cocktail named Four Fifty Tonic. Made with sliced banana and tonic water, it may sound simple, but is actually quite surprising in its refreshing taste and amazing flavour notes.

 

Four Fifty will not be for sale in any store, so only bar clients and friends of Four Seasons Hotel Mexico, DF will enjoy from this beverage.”It’s a limited 100 bottle edition, but when completed, we will prepare more under the same seal of Four Fifty. We will keep its main features but each edition will have its own personality. So far, those who have tried the mezcal have given very good feedback. They enjoy the experience of trying something handcrafted, made personally by our team that they will not find anywhere else,” concludes Axel.
