Fiji Airways plane.Fiji Airways and Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, today announced a new interline cargo arrangement. The newly signed agreement sees both airlines offer rates for seamless carriage of cargo between Fiji and the Middle East and Europe.

Fijian exporters will now be able to send their exports to these markets from Nadi on Fiji Airways to Sydney or Auckland, and then onto Emirates SkyCargo’s global network.

“We’re happy to now have an interline arrangement in place with Emirates SkyCargo, one of the world’s biggest air cargo carriers. The agreement means we now have a larger distribution and increased capacity for cargo from Fiji through their impressive global network. This will greatly assist Fijian exporters to utilise our daily Sydney and Auckland services to send their products to newer markets”, said Stefan Pichler, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways.
Fiji’s Attorney-General and Minister for Industry and Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said that opening up new markets for Fijian made and Fijian grown products is one of the Fijian Government’s key initiatives. “This arrangement is a big win for “Brand Fiji,” opening up a whole new part of the world to Fijian exporters, including small farmers who will be able to ship fresh produce to market. And for overseas companies, it will increase access to the Fijian market, and by extension the wider region, reinforcing Fiji’s status as the trading hub of the South Pacific,” the Attorney-General said.
“This agreement further extends our global reach and opens up new business and trade lanes, giving our customers access to markets in the South Pacific region. It is a mutually beneficial arrangement for both our airlines and our customers and we look forward to working together with Fiji Airways,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo.

Fijian Ambassador Robin Nair welcomed the conclusion of the agreement and paid tribute to CEO Stefan Pichler for his early action after only his recent arrival, on this most important partnership. The Embassy played an important part in facilitating the talks. Ambassador Nair said: “I am very excited to see the conclusion of this arrangement as the Fijian Embassy in Abu Dhabi had been working to achieve this important milestone for prospective fresh produce exporters for some time now. A large importer of fresh produce from Dubai is ready to travel to Fiji already to look at our Fijian fresh produce”.
