The flight was heading towards Nadi in Fiji and the plane initially took off from the airport in Auckland.
It was found that the Air New Zealand flight NZ52 took off from Auckland around 9:35 am local time and after a while, the flight encountered mechanical difficulties.
According to the sources, after one and a half hours of the take off, the crew members of the flight informed the passengers that they would be returning to the airport in Auckland as the flight encountered a mechanical difficulty that cannot be repaired at the airport in Fiji.
The passengers of the jet informed that they were served with a cracker biscuit and a drink each while they faced a flight delay of 5 hours.
According to the spokeswoman of Air New Zealand, Hannah Searle, the pilot of the flight decided to divert the jet around 11:20 am local time after facing engineering fault. She also informed that the fault was rectified after the flight made a safe landing at the Auckland Airport.
The flight later took off from Auckland Airport around 2:09 pm local time and it reached airport in Nadi around 5:08 pm local time.
None of the passengers or the crew members of the flight was reported to be hurt.
